About Hevea Flooring
Hevea, also known as rubberwood, comes from the Rubber tree. Hailing from South America, the hevea has spread across the globe as a plantation tree, particularly to Southeast Asia. Latex can be harvested from the tree as young as five years, and it is one of the most important materials in the production of rubber. The wood is pliant and durable, making it ideal for heavy footfall areas in the home.
Hevea has a number of advantages, one being its color. relatively light and uniform, the hardwood panels have a finish which puts emphasis on the natural character of the wood, although stains are available for darker tones. Hevea panels have little tendency to shrink, and are a very stable material underfoot. It’s worth noting however, the rubberwood’s aversion to moisture and the outdoors. Rain can rob the protective chemicals from the wood, exposing it to fungus and warp. All in all, this is a fantastic hardwood for the home with children and pets.
